14th Feb means Techkriti : What’s wrong with us?

This is an older article of mine which I coincidently wrote on Feb 14. I thought I would include it on the blog.

Valentine’s day is coming and most of us don’t have a date (No surprises there)! We certainly envy our friends who ended up in some fashion college where there are like 50 girls for a single boy (The sentence may seem a bit objectifying but my intention was just to mention the sex ratio).

Is that the reason? We do not have decent girls around. Or even if we do, the sex ratio is so skewed that it’s as good as having no girls at all. There are friends of mine who are yet to talk to girl in the campus! Though half of their bulla sessions are about them.
If someone like that is confronted saying “Why are you so afraid?” the defence mechanism kicks in and they utter the single dialogue “Koi dhang ki ladki hai hi nahi!” They would probably continue to dream “Jab job lag jayegi tab koi dhang ki ladki patayenge”. It so seems that we live in the faith that girls can smell a person who has a joining letter in his pocket.

Believe it or not, every boy here has an elaborate speculation in his mind where he pictures himself 5 years from now with a cute hot girl living in a big house. Not always are we married to the girl or even steady for that matter. For the lack of good familiar faces, celebrity females often take place of the woman of our dreams. All this, however weird and emo it may sound.. is more or less true.

But it can't be that all this happens because there are no girls. There used to be girls in our schools but very few of us actually tried then (or succeeded). It’s how we are. It seems that we have lost the finer qualities like the subtle gestures to show affection, chivalry or jokes that do not involve genitals. The IITians are nationwide regarded as nerds and we do nothing in such matters to prove to the contrary!

One of our biggest fest, without fail, lies on the 14th of Feb thereby declaring to the world that we have nothing better to do on this day than to race our bots and attend some talk by some Nobel laureate who had a life similar to ours.
“He didn’t find a girl himself... maybe if I don’t either...”

Another example: Hukka is one restaurant that has customised itself to attract the IITian crowd and as a result, more people from the campus go to Hukka than all others combined. Today I saw one of their reopening advertisements. It basically says “Fuck females... your friends are what you need! Now you can all come together and forget the fact that you will probably never get a girl !” Now if that is not a correct understanding of ourselves, then I have no idea what is.

I do not mean to say that most of us will never get a girl, we try very hard and make use of our fantastic internet speeds. 3% of the country's bandwidth put to good use! Plus the IITian tag is sometimes enough to take us places!
What is weird is that those of us who do have girlfriends are every bit as sad and pathetic as the rest of us. The most romantic thing a friend of mine did for his girlfriend was to sit together and watch Valentine’s day special on MTV on the valentine’s day.

That is just how sad we are and there is nothing we can do to deny it!

(The author of this article is a very sad demoralised man! He has spent his days in absolute desperation and now there seems no hope that he will ever actually find someone. Every year the 14th Feb brings back bad memories of his eternal and consistent failure. Out of his frustration, he blames the whole of IIT and tries to justify his incompetence by saying :We are all like that!)
